Troopers investigate Soldotna shooting that injured man

Alaska State Troopers in Soldotna responded to a report of gunshots off Big Eddy Road early Monday and found a man who'd been shot multiple times, according to a dispatch posted online.

Troopers got the report about the gunfire around 2:30 in the morning on Monday, the dispatch says. When they arrived, they found 24-year-old Russell J. Camp of Soldotna in a vehicle, "suffering from multiple gunshot wounds," troopers said.

A LifeMed helicopter flew Camp to a hospital in Anchorage, troopers said. No additional information on his condition was available Tuesday, according to troopers spokesperson Megan Peters.

Few additional details were immediately available, but Peters did say the public is not currently considered to be at risk.

"The investigation to this point suggests that this was not a random shooting," Peters wrote in an email.

The Alaska Bureau of Investigation is investigating the cause and circumstances surrounding the shooting.
