First-inning explosion spurs Glacier Pilots' 5-2 win

The Anchorage Glacier Pilots exploded for five first-inning runs Wednesday night at Mulcahy Stadium and cruised to a 5-2 Alaska Baseball League win over the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks.

The Pilots chased Chinooks starter Lucas Hamelink after just one-third of an inning, using RBI doubles from Kyle Watson and Joe Wainhouse, and RBI triples from Kevin Viers and Eugene Vazquez to prosper.

Starter Drew Jacobs went six innings for the Pilots to earn the win. He allowed just one earned run and struck out seven to improve to 2-1 with a 0.50 earned run average.

Meanwhile, the National League champion Mat-Su Miners, who clinched the pennant Tuesday night, received a hit, run scored or RBI from every starter in a 7-3 road win over the Fairbanks Goldpanners.

Connor Wanhanen drove in two runs for the Miners. He delivered an RBI double in Mat-Su's four-run sixth inning.
