East Anchorage family of 11 loses trailer home to fast-moving fire

An East Anchorage family of 11 was given emergency shelter by the Red Cross Sunday after losing their trailer home to a fire.

The Anchorage Fire Department told KTUU Channel 2 that the blaze, in the Totem Trailer Court neighborhood at 700 Klevin St., started just after midnight on Sunday and may have been caused by a fast-spreading cooking fire.

The family, which includes two adults and nine children, will stay in a hotel for three nights, said Red Cross spokeswoman Bethanna Bennett. They've also been provided food, clothing and shoes.

On Sunday, the interior of the tan trailer appeared to be a total loss, with charred belongings piled outside.

"We will be working to help them find a new home as well," Bennett said.
