Ketchikan man dies after stabbing

A man was fatally stabbed in the Southeast Alaska town of Ketchikan on Monday morning, local police reported.

Wayne Nathan, 33, was staying with a number of other people at a residence on the 1100 block of Park Avenue when he was stabbed in the upper abdomen by an acquaintance who was living there, according to Sgt. Andy Berntson with the Ketchikan Police Department.

Nathan, who has ties to the Ketchikan area, was taken by ambulance to Ketchikan General Hospital and later died.

Police are not releasing information regarding the possible role of drugs or alcohol in the altercation. Nathan's body is scheduled to be flown to the State Medical Examiner Office in Anchorage for an autopsy on Tuesday morning, Berntson said.

Berntson, who is in charge of the case, said police have interviewed numerous witnesses and the man who allegedly stabbed Nathan. They are withholding his name pending further investigation.
