A skier and a mountain runner won uphill battles Saturday in Girdwood.
David Norris, a nordic skier for Alaska Pacific University, and Najeeby Quinn, one of the top mountain runners in Alaska, captured victories in the Alyeska Mountain Run, an uphill-only race on Alyeska's North Face Trail.
The race, held on a steep alpine ski hill, was two miles long with 2,000 feet of elevation gain.
Norris stormed to victory in 23 minutes, 18.9 seconds. He beat mountain runner Jim Shine by about 35 seconds.
Quinn topped the women in 29:26.5 to beat a field loaded with skiers, including runner-up Marine Dusser (29:47.2), an NCAA All-American for UAA, and Becca Rorabaugh and Sadie Bjornsen, members of the APU ski team.
The race was the sixth and final event in the Alaska Mountain Runner's Grand Prix series.
