Henrickson ignites Lynx in 48-10 football win over Wasilla

Backup quarterback Kyle Henrickson played like an all-star Thursday night for the Dimond Lynx.

Playing in place of regular starter Vondell Pilcher for the first half of a nonconference football game against the Wasilla Warriors, Henrickson had a career night to carry the Lynx to a 48-10 victory in Wasilla.

He found an array of receivers while completing 11 of 16 passes without an interception for 217 yards and four touchdowns. He rushed for a fifth touchdown to power Dimond to a 41-10 halftime lead.

Pilcher took over in the second half with far less flashy results. He completed four of eight passes with one interception for 42 yards. His 4-yard run provided the only score of the second half.

Dimond, ranked fourth among Alaska's large schools, moved to 3-1. Wasilla remained winless in four games.

Dylan Tufaga and J.J. Tanuvasa were Henrickson's chief targets. Tufaga caught five passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns, and Tanuvasa caught two passes, both for touchdowns. Rafa Zavala hauled in a 31-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the second quarter.

Tanuvasa brought balance to the Dimond offense by rushing for 114 yards on nine carries. The Lynx piled up more than 400 yards on offense, gettin 259 in the air and 167 on the ground.

Dimond struck twice in the game's first three minutes to grab command early. Tanuvasa bolted 37 yards for a touchdown 86 seconds into the game, and 59 seconds later Henrickson tossed a 1-yard touchdown pass to Tufaga.

Dimond's defense held Wasilla to 112 yards offene and came up with big first-quarter turnovers on a couple of occasions. The Lynx recovered a Wasilla fumble to set up Zavala's touchdown and intercepted Carson Reed on a fake punt to set up another score.

Reed served as Wasilla's quarterback, punter and kicker -- he booted a 45-yard field goal to make it 13-3 in the first quarter. He left the game late with an injury, a blow to a Warriors team whose No. 1 and No. 2 quarterbacks missed Thursday's game with injuries.
