South 45, Eagle River 6
Six players scored touchdowns in South's 45-6 victory over Eagle River in a Cook Inlet Conference flag football game Saturday in Eagle River.
Haley Hakala got things rolling by bolting 50 yards for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. She was back in the end zone a minute later on an eight-yard run set up by Emily Robinson's interception.
After that came touchdowns from Nicole McCormick, Dorian Kief, Hannah Caress, Austyn Pedebone and Kelsey Sweetsir. Sweetsir's touchdown, the last of the game, was the result of an interception by Christina Bajker, who returned the ball deep into Eagle River territory.
Eagle River's lone touchdown came on a long drive late in the first half.
Dimond 7, Chugiak 6
Dimond scored on its first drive with Tiffany Jackson's 23-yard run, a play that proved to be the game-winner in the Lynx' 7-6 homecoming win over Chugiak at windy and rainy Dimond Alumni Field on Saturday.
"It was miserable weather," Dimond coach Kathleen Navarre said.
Chugiak got on the board with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Alexis Trombley to Carson Head, but the Mustangs failed to run in the point-after attempt.
D'Shaunna Schuster led a stout Dimond defense with four flag pulls. Jackson added three, one for a loss, and Lillian Lewis added two, one for a loss.
Head picked off a pass for Chugiak, which got eight flag pulls from Eva Palmer and seven from Bailey Rogers.
East 34, West 0
Sierra Rosenzweig caught touchdown passes from two different quarterbacks and nabbed one of East's three interceptions Saturday, sparking the Thunderbirds' 34-0 shutout of West in a CIC flag football game at East.
Sandin Kidder threw three touchdowns passes and Ana Silao tossed two for the T-birds. Kidder connected with Rosenzweig, Jasmine Richard and Alexis Joubert and Silao threw scoring strikes to Rosenzweig and Octavia Hines.
Ten flag pulls by Kendra Luiten and Interceptions by Rosenzweig, Fua Filoiili and Madison Sampleton powered the East defense.
