Video: California kayakers nearly crushed by breaching humpback whale

Two kayakers had a whale of a time off California last weekend when a pod of humpbacks breached near them – and one of the massive marine mammals nearly landed atop their craft.

TV station KSBW says the incident -- caught on video -- took place Saturday just outside the harbor of Moss Landing, Calif.

Sanctuary Cruises captain Michael Sack told the station that he saw the kayak's occupants both get knocked out of their kayak by the breaching.

"A large aggregation of humpbacks (were) feeding," Sack said. "There were also a lot of kayakers right in the middle of it all. The next thing we knew, this thing launched right on top of these two kayakers. It was very scary to watch."

Neither of the kayakers was struck or hurt during the close call, and other boaters helped them get to shore.
