UAA junior Joyce Chelimo, who finished second Saturday at the Western Washington Invitational, on Monday was honored as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference's women's athlete of the week for cross-country running.
Chelimo finished second in the six-kilometer race in 21 minutes, 19 seconds, to lead UAA to a second-place team finish. The Seawolves women are ranked No. 7 in the nation in Division II.
Chelimo, who red-shirted last season, in 2013 finished second at the GNAC meet to earn the conference's Newcover of the Year award, and claimed All-American honors with her 13th-place finish at the national meet.
