Alaska seasonally adjusted unemployment rate falls slightly

The state Department of Labor says Alaska's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell slightly from 6.6 percent in August to 6.4 percent in September

The national rate for September was 5.1 percent.

The department in an announcement says the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate this year has not shown a clear trend up or down.

Unadjusted unemployment rates increased in 21 out of 29 boroughs or census areas.

The largest increases were in the Bristol Bay Borough and Dillingham Census Area. Rates increased there by 2.1 and 2.5 percentage points.

The department says they typically have large seasonal swings because of summer salmon fisheries.

The Kusilvak Census Area showed the highest September unemployment rate at 19.5 percent. The lowest was the Aleutians West Census Area at 2.9 percent.
