South wrestlers open season with tournament win in Houston

Led by champions in three weight classes, the South Wolverines opened the wrestling season by winning The Altercation, a 20-team tournament that wrapped up Saturday in Houston.

Greg Shack, Rami Pellumbi and Abraham Correa-Medina captured titles for South, which piled up 222 points to hold off the defending Class 4A state champion Colony Knights.

Colony produced four individual champions – Rush Fannon, Levi Hopkins, Caleb Hopkins and Robert Haan – and totaled 194 points.

Third-place Wasilla finished with three champs and 150 points.
