Alaska Gov. Walker to attend tree-lighting in DC, testify before Senate committee

JUNEAU -- Alaska Gov. Bill Walker is heading to Washington, D.C., to attend the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree lighting and to testify before a U.S. Senate committee.

Katie Marquette, a Walker spokeswoman, says the governor plans to leave for Washington on Tuesday.

He is scheduled on Wednesday to attend the lighting of the Capitol Christmas tree, which this year comes from Alaska, and to testify before the Senate energy committee Thursday. The committee is chaired by Alaska's senior senator, Lisa Murkowski.

Thursday's hearing is on the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act of 1980.

Murkowski spokesman Robert Dillon said by email that the hearing will look at how federal legislation and regulatory changes over the last 35 years may have been impacted the act and whether any changes in the act are appropriate.
