More snow allows Alyeska to open North Face terrain

A steady blast of early season snowfall will allow Alyeska Resort on Sunday to open a section of the mountain's North Face called the Tram Pocket, an area that was closed the entire snow-short winter of 2014-15.

"We are extremely excited about skiing this terrain," Alyeska General Manager Di Whitney said in a press release. "We were not able to ski it at all last season due to snow conditions, so there's a lot of built up energy and excitement."

In a 24-hour period ending Saturday afternoon, Alyeska received a foot of snow at the top of Glacier Bowl. Two inches were measured at the base of the Girdwood mountain.

The steep, expert-level Tram Pocket runs beneath the tram and is accessed by Chuck's Gate or the Sundeck Gate. Skiers and snowboarders will need to exit the run using the Spoonline Traverse at the base of the Glacier Bowl Express.
