Man crushed by heavy equipment in workplace accident, Anchorage police say

An employee at a local construction equipment dealer died in a work-related industrial accident on Monday afternoon, according to Anchorage police.

Just after 1 p.m. the Anchorage Police Department responded to the report of an accident at Construction Machinery Industrial, located on Homer Drive, wrote APD spokesperson Jennifer Castro.?

"An adult male employee was crushed by a piece of heavy equipment," Castro wrote in an email.

The Anchorage Fire Department sent eight units to respond, said AFD spokesperson John See. The employee was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anchorage police are conducting a preliminary investigation, Castro wrote. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will also conduct an investigation.

Calls to Construction Machinery Industrial CEO Ken Gerondale were not immediately returned Monday afternoon. The company offers new and used construction equipment such as excavators, cranes and forklifts, according to its website.

The man's identity was not being released pending next-of-kin notification as of 4 p.m. Monday, according to Castro.
