Body recovered Sunday is missing Houston woman, troopers say

Alaska State Troopers have identified a body recovered near Millers Reach Road on Sunday as that of a Houston woman last seen nearly a week ago.

Troopers said in a Monday dispatch that 56-year-old Diana Pittser's remains were found at about 11:15 a.m. Sunday. Pittser had been last seen leaving her home in the area Tuesday night, headed for a nearby river.

"Pittser's body was located submerged in a river off Rappalla Road by AST," troopers wrote. "Mat-Su Borough Fire, EMS, and Dive Rescue responded to the location and the body was recovered. Next of kin was on scene at the time of the recovery."

Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said no determination of what led up to Pittser's death had been made, and troopers were awaiting the results of a full autopsy of her body by the State Medical Examiner Office in Anchorage.

"It looks like she was caught up on a log," Peters said.

Diana Pittser, 56, left her home on Millers Reach Road for a walk carrying just a flashlight Tuesday night en route to a nearby river.
