Costco shoplifter slashes employee, Anchorage police say

A Costco employee was slashed on the arm with a box cutter by a shoplifter Wednesday afternoon in East Anchorage, according to the Anchorage Police Department.

At 1:45 p.m. APD said officers responded to a report of a shoplifter at the DeBarr Road store. When the alleged shoplifter was confronted by an employee, the suspect took out the blade and cut the employee three times, police said.

The employee's injury was not life-threatening. The alleged shoplifter ran away.

The suspect is described as a 6-foot-4-inch male with a slim build, in his 30s or 40s.

Anyone who has seen him or knows where he might be should not approach him and call 911 instead, police said.

It was the second incident at the Costco location in recent months -- a 29-year-old man was subdued by employees in November after he was caught trying to steal items and pistol-whipped an employee who tried to stop him, police said at the time.
