Anchorage skier Bjornsen leads US in Tour de Ski's 10-K classic

Sadie Bjornsen moved up a spot in the Tour de Ski overall standings Saturday by placing ninth in the women's 10-kilometer classic race in Val di Fiemme, Italy.

Bjornsen, a member of Alaska Pacific University's nordic team, was the top American finisher.

She's in 12th place overall heading into Sunday's final race of the eight-race event, a grueling 9-K hillclimb.

"I struggled with classic in the middle of this tour, with a fall in the classic qualifier and then slow and slick skis in the classic mass start ... so it feels nice to be back where I feel like I belong," Bjornsen said in a release from the U.S. Ski Team.

Minnesota's Jessie Diggins, who won the freestyle sprint Friday, placed 17th Saturday and is 10th in the overall standings.

Heidi Weng led Norway's women to a podium sweep Saturday to claim her first career World Cup victory after a combined 37 silvers and bronzes. Countrymate Ingvild Oestberg owns a big lead in the overall standings.
