Suspect arrested after $22K in stolen jewelry surfaces at pawn shop

Alaska State Troopers got a lucky break in the theft of more than $20,000 in jewelry from a North Pole home earlier this month, when the stolen items surfaced at a pawn shop.

According to a Thursday trooper dispatch, 32-year-old North Pole resident Jaylene S. Davis is charged with three felony second-degree counts and one misdemeanor count of third-degree theft in the case.

Troopers were first alerted on Jan. 5 that the items, valued at $22,090, had been taken from a home on Aster Drive. A clause in state law, requiring pawn shops to keep records on people who pawn items, helped lead investigators to Davis.

"On January 9, 2016 troopers with the Special Projects Unit recovered the stolen jewelry from a local pawn shop and identified the suspect who pawned the items," troopers wrote.

In addition to theft charges from the January case, troopers said Davis had been "violating her conditions of release from a prior theft case."

Troopers arrested Davis on Wednesday, remanding her to the Fairbanks Correctional Center where she was held without bail.
