Police: Armed man robs Midtown Anchorage gas station

Anchorage police say a man armed with a gun robbed a Midtown gas station early Friday morning.

Police responded to the Chevron near the Old Seward Highway and International Airport Road just after 1:20 a.m., according to an Anchorage Police Department release. It was reported that "a male armed with a gun had entered the store and demanded cash," the release says.

The suspect is believed to have fled the gas station on foot with "a few hundred dollars," police said. APD described him as 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing about 170 pounds. He was wearing khakis and a hooded sweatshirt, and his face was concealed, police said.

No injuries were reported as a result of the robbery.

There was a single employee in the store during the robbery, said police spokesperson Jennifer Castro. Police spoke with a nearby witness, she said.

Police are asking anyone with information to call them at 907-786-8900 or to provide an anonymous tip through Anchorage Crime Stoppers at 907-561-STOP or its website.

APD stopped providing an on-air feed of its activities on Wednesday after a rash of robberies. The police department had not responded to any reported robberies since Tuesday, and investigators don't know if the most recent robbery is related to others in the past week, Castro said.

She said the department has not decided when it will turn the online police scanner back on.
