Wanted Kodiak man arrested by US marshals, troopers

U.S. marshals arrested Mark Benton, 49, in Kodiak Saturday on a multitude of charges including assault and kidnapping, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Alaska Fugitive Task Force traveled to Kodiak three days before the arrest to locate Kodiak resident Benton, who was wanted on a $75,000 arrest warrant for assault, kidnapping, weapons misconduct and violating his probation conditions, troopers said.

Troopers spokesperson Megan Peters previously told Alaska Dispatch News that Benton allegedly assaulted someone he was in a relationship with, then forced that person into a vehicle and kept them from leaving. Benton also assaulted another person and threatened them with a gun, she said.

The call about the assaults came in on the night of Jan. 8, and troopers initiated their search shortly thereafter.

On Saturday shortly before 9 p.m., the marshals and a Kodiak-based trooper found and arrested Benton without incident at an address on Parkside Drive, troopers said. The wanted man was taken to the Kodiak jail, they said.
