Anchorage police recover stolen pickup and trailer

Update, 12:40 p.m. Wednesday: Anchorage police said they have located the missing trailer.

Original story: Police are asking for the public's help in finding a trailer that was stolen from a Midtown lot Tuesday evening using a pickup that was later recovered.

Police spokeswoman Renee Oistad said in a statement Thursday that the trailer, a white 2004 model carrying license plate 4014SR, was taken from a lot on the 600 block of West 54th Avenue -- off Arctic Boulevard south of International Airport Road -- at about 6 p.m. Tuesday.

"The truck used to steal the trailer was also stolen," Oistad wrote. "The unoccupied truck was located by police approximately two hours later in the area of Arctic Boulevard and International Airport Road. The trailer was no longer attached to the truck when the truck was recovered."

Oistad said that the trailer's owner reported the theft. Police couldn't comment Thursday morning on whether a person seen in a surveillance photo of the lot showing the trailer was a suspect in the trailer's theft, or what if anything the trailer contained when it was taken.

"We know the trailer disappeared between West 54th and (the pickup's recovery), so we're just trying to find it," Oistad said.

Investigators are asking anyone who sees the trailer, or has had a new trailer appear in their neighborhood since Tuesday, to contact either police at 907-786-8900 or Anchorage Crime Stoppers at 907-561-STOP or its website.
