Girls basketball: East, Dimond, Service post victories

East 60, South 39

Tennae Voliva racked up a double-double Thursday to help the East T-birds beat South 60-39 to win for the second night in a row.

Voliva posted 18 points on 8-of-12-shooting and grabbed 12 rebounds in the CIC game. Daisy Page also had 12 rebounds and Octavia Hines and Sandin Kidder chipped in eight points apiece for East.

Nani Garner matched Voliva with 18 points for South, which got another 14 points from Issy Babiak.

On Wednesday, East stormed past Chugiak 61-35. Kidder led all scorers with 22 points and Voliva added 14 points and eight rebounds for the T-birds.

Hannah Russell paced the Mustangs with 10 points.

Service 48, Eagle River 35

Katie Pearce and Courtney LaPointe each scored five points in the final quarter Thursday to help Service pull away from Eagle River for a 48-35 CIC girls basketball victory at Service High.

The Cougars led 33-28 after three quarters and sealed the win by outscoring Eagle River 15-7 in the final eight minutes.

Pearce finished with a game-high 18 points and LaPointe added eight. Shade Gopie led Eagle River with 10 points.

Dimond 71, Bartlett 25

Alissa Pili poured in 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds Thursday in Dimond's 71-25 rout of Bartlett in a Cook Inlet Conference girls basketball game at Dimond.

Whitney Shapp added 15 points and Shameah Jones had 13 for the Lynx, who led 39-9 at the half.

Brandee Hawley's 11 points and Paia Togagae's eight rebounds topped the Golden Bears.

Mt. Edgecumbe 53, West 36

Daisy Hunt's 19 points helped Mt. Edgecumbe stop the West girls 53-36 Thursday in the opening rouind of the Barrow Whalers Invitational in Barrow.

Payton Weisz added 13 points for the Class 3A Braves.
