UAA's Buchanan, Anders merit GNAC honors

Senior guard Jenna Buchanan, who helped the UAA women's basketball team win a pair of conference games, and senior multi-event athlete Karolin Anders, who surpassed her own school record in the high jump, were honored by the Great Northwest Athletic Conference on Monday.

Buchanan tied her career high with 28 points in an 82-73 win over Montana State-Billings and added 11 in an 82-56 romp over UAF. She drained 9 of 16 three-pointers in those two games for the Seawolves (24-1, 11-1 GNAC), who are ranked No. 2 in the nation and sit atop the GNAC.

Anders, an All-American, cleared 5 feet, 8 inches, at the UW Invitational to top her previous school record (5-7.75) and finish seventh in the pentathlon.

Anders' 5-8 ties for fifth-best all-time in the GNAC and ties her for the third-best Division II performance in the nation this season.

Anders' 3,813 points at an event earlier in the season stands as the third-highest score in Division II pentathlon this season.
