Caller, K-9 unit help troopers foil Fairbanks burglary

An alert citizen's report led to the arrest of two men attempting to burglarize a Fairbanks home and take a car parked there Sunday evening, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Troopers said in a Monday dispatch that they responded to a burglary in progress at the Crestline Drive home after receiving a 911 call at about 11 p.m. Sunday.

"The caller also noted that the homeowner(s) were not home," troopers wrote. "The caller saw suspects inside the home with flashlights, and saw suspects tampering with a parked vehicle outside the home."

When troopers arrived, they took two suspects into custody: Fairbanks residents Andrew Towse, 40, and Michael Meath, 49.

"Troopers responded to the residence and flashlights were still able to be seen inside the vacant home upon their arrival," troopers wrote. "Trooper K-9 Skippy was used to locate and detain the two individuals inside the home."

Towse and Meath were each charged with first-degree burglary and attempted vehicle theft. They were taken to the Fairbanks Correctional Center.
