Eid, Cassee grab super-G crowns at Alyeska Cup

Sanne Cassee and Hunter Eid each raced to two super-G wins Wednesday at the Alyeska Cup in Girdwood.

Both U-16 skiers earned state championships by winning the day's first set of races at Alyeska Ski Resort, and both kept their momentum going in the second set of races.

The five-day race series features more than 100 skiers from Anchorage and Juneau. At stake are spots in the Western Region championships and the Arctic Winter Games.

In the boys state championship race, both Jack Stahla and Ely Cerutti were stopped mid-course due to crashes ahead of them, giving both a second chance to overtake Eid. Neither could beat Eid's time of 54.51 seconds, although Stahla was close behind in 54:65. Cerutti placed third.

Eid enjoyed a much more comfortable win in the second super-G, clocking 54.39 to beat second-place Kevin Leach's time of 55.14.

In girls competition, Cassee finished the first super-G in 56.47 to win by more than half a second. In the second race, her time of 56.12 was nearly a full second ahead of anyone else.

Amanda Lundgren placed second in both races.
