West hockey team rallies past Eagle River to finish 3rd in CIC tournament

The West Eagles scored three unanswered goals in the third period Friday to rally past Eagle River 4-2 in the third-place game of the Cook Inlet Conference hockey tournament.

The victory means West will be the third seed from the CIC at next week's state tournament in Wasilla. Eagle River will make its tournament debut as the CIC's No. 4 seed.

Eagle River led 2-1 after two periods. West's big third period included an empty-net goal near the end of the game.

The CIC championship will be decided Saturday when Dimond and Chugiak meet in a 6:30 p.m. game at Ben Boeke Arena.
