'Unevent' fundraiser planned for Sled Dog Sanctuary on Feb. 13-14

WHO: Alaskan Wild Women Hiking & Backpacking Group fundraiser for the Sled Dog Sanctuary. The sanctuary is described as a place where sled dogs can work, play and thrive while healing from a past life of abuse, illness or neglect.

WHAT: "Unevent Game Nights." From organizer Valinda Brooks: I imagine that Unevent is a new idea for you, so let me explain. A host plans a SIMPLE event (no cost or low cost) like a game night, potluck, bbq, hike, penny bingo, etc. and then at some point during the Unevent you talk about the Sanctuary and what they do there, etc. The idea is for each person to consider how much money they would have spent that day/night if they had gone to dinner and done whatever and then donate a portion of what they saved to the sanctuary.

WHEN AND WHERE: Saturday Feb. 13 at 6 p.m., Sunday Feb. 14 at 5:30 p.m., an Anchorage home of one of the organizers.

PRIZES, DETAILS: A mushing lesson (good for a year), 2 dog sled rides, an Irish dance lesson, and I'm working on a couple others. We will have the owners of the Sanctuary draw the winners when we go to volunteer there on 2/27. On 2/13 (Sat.), we will be playing Cranium and maybe one other game. On the 14th, we will play whatever games people bring.

CONTACT: Right now I have space for 4 more people on both nights so if someone would like to participate they would need to email me at anniesma@msn.com.
