Gaetan Pierrard eased his eight dogs across the Whitehorse finish line Friday morning to win the Red Lantern Award as the final finisher in the Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race.

There was no drama about who would take the 19th and last finishing spot. Pierrard, a 39-year-old rookie from Mendenhall, Yukon, finished at 8:57 a.m. Friday.

The next-to-last racer, Rob Cook, made it to Whitehorse by 1:34 p.m.Thursday. Cook won the Red Lantern last year.

Of the 23 mushers who started the race Feb. 6 in Fairbanks, three scratched and one was withdrawn.
