Former Eielson star DeLoach wins hurdles at 109th Millrose Games

Janay DeLoach, the former Eielson High star who is an Olympic bronze medalist in the long jump, reminded Saturday that she also is an elite hurdler.

DeLoach won the women's 60-meter hurdles at the 109th Millrose Games in New York City and barely missed her personal best in the event.

DeLoach, 30, clocked 7.85 seconds, just shy of her personal record of 7.82, set in 2014. DeLoach won bronze in the long jump at the 2012 Olympics in London.

DeLoach already has qualified in the long jump and 100 hurdles for the U.S. Olympic Trials later this summer in Eugene, Oregon.

Also Saturday at the Millrose Games, Kodiak's Trevor Dunbar, 24, finished 12th of 13 men in the 3,000 meters, clocking 7:47:39. Two weeks prior, Dunbar, the former University of Oregon star, ran 7:43.33 at the TrackTown USA High Performance Meet in Portland, Oregon.

Friday, shot putter Jordan Clarke of Anchorage won the event at the Northern Arizona University Tune-Up Meet in Flagstaff.

Clarke, 25, threw 64 feet, 5.25 inches on his first throw. He fouled on three subsequent attempts and passed on his final two attempts.

Clarke's personal record indoors is 68-5.25. He competed last year in the outdoor World Championships.
