UAA's Cross hits 1 NCAA track qualifier, just misses another

UAA junior Mary-Kathleen Cross delivered a NCAA Division II-qualifying provisional time in the 200 meters Saturday and barely missed a provisional qualifier in the 400 meters at the Willamette Invitational in Salem, Oregon.

Cross clocked a personal-record (PR) 24.50 seconds to win the 200. Her PR of 56.08 in winning the 400 -- that was an improvement of .71 -- left her just .10 shy of the Division II outdoor standard.

Seawolves junior Tevin Gladden won the high jump at 6 feet, 7.50 inches. That's just a half-inch below the NCAA qualifier, but he's already met that mark (6-8).

Sophomore Caroline Kurgat finished second in the women's 1,500 meters with a provisional qualifier of 4:29.39.

Also collecting provisional qualifiers were junior Jamie Ashcroft in the women's 100 (11.94) and sophomore Nathan Kipchumba in the men's 800 (1:51.92).

Senior Cody Thomas, best known as a multi-event athlete, ran a PR in the 100, clocking 10.92 to finish third.
