Spenard Road was reopened late Sunday after an assault suspect was taken into custody following an hours-long standoff, Anchorage police said.
Lucas Rashotte, 35, was charged with second-degree assault, according to a statement from the Anchorage Police Department.
Around 6 p.m. Sunday, police said they received a call from a woman who said she had been physically assaulted. Police responded to the area and spoke with the woman.
Police then tried to contact Rashotte, who was still in an apartment. He "refused to open the door, and told the police he would shoot both them and himself," police spokeswoman Renee Oistad wrote in a statement.
Police moved away from the doorway, and after repeated failed efforts to speak with Rashotte, SWAT arrived at the home. They shut down a portion of Spenard Road and warned nearby residents to close their windows and doors in the event of a gas deployment.
Shortly after 9:30 p.m., Rashotte walked outside "under his own power and was taken into custody without incident," Oistad wrote. He had self-inflicted wounds on his arms and was hospitalized, she wrote.
Spenard Road between Minnesota and Oregon was reopened shortly before 10 p.m.
