2 people hurt in 3-vehicle Glenn Highway crash near Thunderbird Falls

Three vehicles were involved in a Glenn Highway collision that sent two people to the hospital Tuesday morning, with the highway's inbound lanes closed for nearly one hour.

Police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro said Monday afternoon that the crash was initially reported at about 9:20 a.m. Two of the three vehicles involved had been stopped on the Glenn's shoulder inbound between the Eklutna and Mirror Lake exits, as their drivers were outside them working on a mechanical issue.

"While the vehicles were pulled over onto the side of the highway, another vehicle traveling inbound drifted over and struck the rear end of one of the parked vehicles," Castro wrote. "That parked vehicle then struck the other vehicle parked in front of it."

The driver who struck the stopped vehicles was unhurt, but the other two were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Castro said no charges or citations had been issued in the crash, which remained under investigation Tuesday afternoon. The highway was closed inbound until one lane opened at about 10 a.m., fully reopening by 11:15.
