Juneau police warn Verizon users of 911 service outage

Updated 3:36 p.m.: All 911 services in Juneau have been restored, according to Juneau Police Department Lt. Kris Sell.

Original story: Verizon phone-service subscribers in Alaska's capital were asked to call Juneau police directly, if necessary, due to an outage barring local 911 calls from their phones Friday morning.

Juneau Police Department Lt. Kris Sell said in a statement that word of the outage first came from a Verizon subscriber.

While police have received only a single report of the outage, Sell said it was deemed important enough to immediately release a statement.

"We've had one citizen who called it to our attention that her Verizon was not getting through," Sell said. "It's kind of concerning."

Police planned to release an update whenever word of Verizon 911 service was restored in Juneau. In the meantime, they advised Verizon users to call JPD's non-emergency line at 907-586-0600 for any 911 matters.
