Two dead, one injured in Seward Highway crash Friday night

Two people died and another was injured in a car crash on the Seward Highway Friday night, Alaska State Troopers said.

According to a troopers dispatch, at about 7 p.m. Friday troopers responded to a head-on crash near Mile 99.

Troopers said a Subaru was driving north on the highway when it crossed into the oncoming southbound lane. A Chevrolet van swerved to avoid it, but was hit anyway, pushing the van off the road. The Subaru driver continued northbound and hit a Jeep, resulting in passenger Wendell Booth Jr., 48, of Anchorage being taken to an Anchorage hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Both the female driver and male passenger of the Subaru were pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers are withholding the identities until their families are notified.

Troopers said all occupants of the cars were wearing seat belts. The investigation was ongoing Saturday.
