The rumor that Talkeetna's honorary feline mayor Stubbs had died was an internet hoax, according to his owner.
"He's here with me right now," said owner Stephanie Enders. "He's definitely fine."
A post claiming that Stubbs had died was published late Monday afternoon on an unofficial Facebook page for the famous cat. After an hour, the post garnered more than 700 shares and 430 comments.
Enders said she has been unable to have the unofficial page removed because it was created for a government official.
"We can't do anything about it," she said.
Enders said Stubbs encouraged Stubbs' supporters to visit the correct page, Mayor Stubbs.
The person who runs the unofficial page did not return a request for comment.
Stubbs was attacked by a dog in September 2013, but he recovered.
