Should the state of Alaska send public employees to other states for cheaper health care?
It's a proposal recently floated by Gov. Sean Parnell's administration, according to the Juneau Empire, and comes along with what the administration calls "unsustainable growth" in the amount of money the state is spending on health care for public employees and retirees.
Here's an excerpt from the Empire's story:
The administration suggests that sending public employees out of state for treatment could provoke Alaska health care providers to lower costs.
Unsurprisingly, state medical association and nursing home administrators were shell-shocked by the proposal.
