Alaska Lieutenant Gov. Mead Treadwell Tuesday swore in new Senate members of the 28th Alaska Legislature during the Senate's first Floor Session, after which two new committees were formed.
Immediately following the swearing-in ceremony, the Senate created the two committees to work on some of the most important issues facing Alaskans right now, namely how to increase oil production and address in-state energy needs.
The two new committees created by resolution were the "Senate Special Committee on Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) Throughput" and "the Senate Special Committee on In-State Energy."
The Senate's in-state energy committee will be co-chaired by Sen. Click Bishop and Sen. John Coghill and includes Sens. Peter Micciche, Dennis Egan and Bill Wielechowski, while the Senate Special Committee on Trans-Alaska Pipeline System Throughput will be co-chaired by Sen. Micciche and Sen. Mike Dunleavy. The TAPS committee will include Sens. Anna Fairclough, Lesil McGuire and Berta Gardner.
The Senate Committee on Committees also confirmed assignments for the Senate Standing Committees and Senate President Charlie Huggins made appointments to the Special and Joint Legislative Committees, which can be seen below.
