Unalaska-based journalist Alexandra Gutierrez reports for The Daily Beast about how the island's residents are coping with the possibility of radiation from Japan reaching the Aleutians. Reportedly, there's not much direct fear yet of fallout in Unalaska/Dutch Harbor, and the sunsets have been gorgeous. One self-defense class ad campaign is even having a little fun with the ominous but unclear situation by featuring jokes about being protected from radioactive zombies. The heavily fishing-oriented community has indirect worries, however, stemming from reports of an apparent (and since denied) effort to connect radiation fallout to North Pacific fisheries.
