How a polar bear cub spends summer at the Alaska Zoo

The polar bear cub living at the Alaska Zoo is full of bounce and spunk! Rescued after she was abandoned near an oil feld on the North Slope, the young bear now weighs almost 60 pounds -- nearly quadruple the meager 15 pounds she weighed when she first arrived at the zoo in May. In these videos, shot by the zoo, the cub energetically wrestles with an empty burlap coffee bean bag and tenaciously fishes for a floating ice chunk. The cub, which had at one time earned the nickname "snowflake," will likely head to a new home this summer. But you have a chance to catch a glimpse of her yourself before she leaves. She's on display twice daily from 11 a.m. to noon and between 4 and 5 p.m.
