More from Flint Hills on tainted wells

According to the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, Flint Hills Resources held a meeting with North Pole residents and government officials to lay out its two most promising plans for fixing the ongoing problem of sulfolane contamination in area water wells. The contamination is originating from the North Pole refinery which Flint Hills purchased from Williams Alaska Petroleum, but Williams and Flint Hills are still in high-level discussions about whose responsibility the tainted wells ultimately are. Nevertheless, Flint Hills is moving forward on a fix. Many residents still affected by the contamination expressed frustration at how long they've waited, and expect to wait, for a plan to be chosen and implemented. And one resident spoke of what Alaska Beat assumes is a common source of worry among affected, semi-rural residents: both plans would require them to pay for water. Read more, here.
