NCAA riflery dynasty at UAF profiled

The University of Alaska Fairbanks riflery program has produced so many NCAA national titles and Olympians over the last ten years that ESPN's Page 2 has officially recognized the team for what many Alaskans have known it to be: A dynasty.

The Nanook rifle team isn't the most successful one in NCAA history since riflery became an official collegiate sport in 1980 (West Virginia has 14 national titles), but since 1994, UAF shooters have been nearly unbeatable.

Page 2 notes, with a nod to stereotypes:

The lengthy profile of UAF's rifle program continues to say that the gun culture in Alaska is one reason the team has such a high profile locally, but it basically destroys that myth as a cause for the team's success.

One huge reason the program has been so successful is that it recruits the best, ambitious young shooters from around the U.S. and Scandinavia through a reputation of excellent coaching.
