Norwegian kayaker survives polar bear attack

According to the UK's Telegraph, a 22-year-old Norwegian kayaker on a trek around the Svalbard Archipelago was nearly killed by a polar bear after being dragged from the tent he slept in. He said he woke up with his head in the bear's mouth, and remembers being held high in the air and shaken like a seal. The bear dragged the man about 130 feet from the tent before his expedition partner was able to (carefully) shoot the bear as it mauled his friend. A helicopter rescue came quickly, and after a three-hour surgery, the mauling victim is recovering in a hospital. Read much more, here.
