Search for missing Mount Marathon runner suspended

With poor weather hampering efforts, the family of Mount Marathon runner Michael LeMaitre has asked that the search for the missing man be suspended, according to KTUU.

LeMaitre, 66, was last seen a couple hundred feet from the turnaround near the top of the mountain overlooking Seward. The Seward Fire chief said small teams of searchers may return to the mountain when the weather improves.

LeMaitre's son-in-law, Curtis Lynn, told KTUU that the mountain is slick and becoming dangerous. He says family does not want volunteers in harm's way.

Still, Lynn said it was an "extremely hard decision" because the family does not have closure.

LeMaitre disappeared during the July 4 Mount Marathon race.
