Stormy weather again knocks out electricity to Southcentral Alaska

It was a short-lived and lovely few hours with electricity along Turnagain Arm south of Anchorage.

Chugach Electric Association reported Tuesday noonish that they'd finally gotten the lights back on across the region, after a weekend storm damaged transmission lines and killed power to thousands. By 5 o'clock, the emails were rolling in of residents again in the dark along the arm, out to Moose Pass and Cooper Landing.

Power between Hope and Cooper Landing was out, again, to little surprise for the hardy souls living out on that side of Turnagain Pass. Some 170 metered households in Moose Pass were without electricity.

Back in Anchorage, there were sporadic reports of power outages around town, including at least 50 metered households in northeast Anchorage.

All-told, hurricane-force winds and avalanche danger forecast Tuesday night could keep hundreds of households without electricity overnight due to safety concerns for electricians, according to a Chugach statement.

The National Weather Service warned of wind gusts up to 90 mph Tuesday evening in Anchorage and south along Turnagain Arm.
