Wine of the week: Girard's 2010 Sauvignon Blanc

Here we go -- a Napa Valley sauvignon blanc at a reasonable price. Girard's 2010 Sauvignon Blanc is an especially zippy charmer. I like this wine because it doesn't behave like a stereotypical New Zealand sauvignon blanc. You know, pink grapefruit and gooseberry. The nose is citrus, melon and fig, and being a 2010, the acids are fresh-picked and bracing. The mouth is firmly in the lemon/citrus arena, and there is a beautiful viscosity that plays well on the palate. This is a great aperitif, but I seem to be craving a plain clam linguine. Enjoy! Costs about $18.
