The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial has been corrected to fix a truncated quotation that read, "I was a drum major for justice, peace and righteousness."
King actually said, "If you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice. Say that I was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness. And all of the other shallow things will not matter."
Sculptor Lei Yixin removed the quote earlier this week after complaints that the statue's version changed the meaning and made King sound arrogant.
The artist from China promises a "prettier" statue and ensures that all construction will be done before the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington later this month.
