Actress Reese Witherspoon sent to jail for disorderly conduct

NEW YORK – Hollywood's golden girl Reese Witherspoon found herself behind bars Friday for disorderly conduct after her husband James Toth was stopped by police for erratic driving.

The arrest happened in Atlanta, Georgia, after the 37-year-old Oscar winning actress argued with police as her husband was being arrested for drink driving, Variety reported.

Witherspoon allegedly questioned whether the officer, Trooper First Class J. Pyland, was a "real police officer."

"Mrs. Witherspoon asked, 'Do you know my name?'," the police report obtained by Variety stated.

Pyland told her he did not need to know her name, and Witherspoon allegedly replied: "You're about to find out who I am. You're going to be on national news."

Witherspoon was handcuffed and the couple taken to the Atlanta city jail, CNN reported.

She is charged with interfering with her husband's arrest, while Toth, a Hollywood agent, was charged with drink driving.

In his report, Pyland described Toth as having bloodshot eyes and smelling of alcohol.

The couple was released at 3.30 a.m. Friday and were due to face court Monday, Reuters reported.

Witherspoon was in Atlanta to make a movie titled "The Good Lie".

On Sunday night, she took to the red carpet with her co-star Matthew McConaughey for the premiere of her latest film "Mud", but neither would comment on the arrest, AP reported.
