Letter: Blame Begich

I hope Democrats never forget, and never forgive, Mark Begich for making Mike Dunleavy our governor. Polls conducted before Begich announced he would run showed Walker beating Dunleavy 51 percent to 42 percent.

Speaking truth to power didn’t set well with Democratic Party Chair Casey Steinau. My pre-election Sept. 20 letter stating “I hope Democrats never forget, and never forgive Mark Begich for making Mike Dunleavy our next governor” got me booted from the Alaska Democratic Party’s Central Committee.

Supporting Bill Walker was the only chance we Democrats had to avoid four years of Dunleavy.

Walker worked with both sides of the aisle. Dunleavy’s margin of victory proves that Begich, and the party leaders who encouraged him, should have known that there was no possible path for Begich to beat Dunleavy. The only accomplishments of Begich and his backers were to derail Walker’s lead and put Mike Dunleavy on track to dumb down our schools, attack woman’s rights and destroy our economy.
