Letter: A leaderless winter ahead

On Sept. 8, Mayor Dave Bronson tweeted: “I don’t know what more I can do.”Really, Mr. Mayor? Why don’t you ask someone for advice? I don’t know — maybe a health care practitioner?

Far-right politicians like Bronson hate government and don’t believe it can work. Then they get elected and prove themselves right.Mayor Bronson should reword his tweet. Perhaps what he really means to say is: “I don’t know what more I CANNOT do.”

Mayor Bronson would do well to remember that he is not the choice of roughly half the town. Of the half who did vote for him, only about half of those are the noisy, anti-masking, QAnon-believer base who show up to fling muck at the Assembly every Tuesday. The rest of the Bronson vote was likely hockey families, hospitality businesses, realtors and homebuilders — in other words, moderate folks grown weary of the pandemic who were looking for a change.

I’m guessing there is some “buyer’s remorse” setting in with that second group, especially as the prospect of a leaderless winter under Mayor Bronson sets in: more pandemic, more medical care crises and a market recession that will surely follow.

Whether by misfeasance or malfeasance, the Bronson administration is failing our great city.
