Letter: Vote for Wool

In this week’s special primary election for U.S. Congress, I hope you’ll join me in voting for Rep. Adam Wool. No doubt, there are many strong progressive candidates. I appreciate each of them. But Adam would bring unique qualities to the job. While he is a progressive Democrat, as a 20-year owner of Fairbanks’s “Blue Loon” bar — an entertainment and movie venue — he has a keen businessmen’s perspective on what works and what doesn’t, how to make ends meet, and how to balance an accounting ledger. He will be a strong voice for our entrepreneurial community.

At the same time, Adam has been unafraid to take tough votes in defense of climate reduction and mitigation measures, gun safety, and a responsible Permanent Fund dividend, to name a few. He has also been principled, while simultaneously working well with both sides of the aisle. Rep. Wool has been collaborative, not divisive. Adam is also an exceptional listener.

I’m supporting Adam because he is studious and informed, but also is comfortable talking to all Alaskans, whatever they’re background or life perspective. We need someone like that in Washington, D.C.
